Flikkers poster

"Flikkers was the disco at the Hirschfeld Centre, Dublin, which was opened on Fownes St. in 1979 by the National Gay Federation. The community centre was the first full-time lesbian and gay venue in Ireland. It housed a meeting space, a youth group, a café, a small cinema and film club and it ran discos at the weekend where gay men, lesbian women and transgender people socialised. The history, legacy and impact of the NGF and the Hirschfeld is too long and too important to list here. The centre burned down in 1987. This poster was rescued from the building, and its edges are burnt and scorched. You can still smell the smoke."
