Portable match holder

"When 80% of the Irish population were smokers, they needed to carry their cigarettes with them. If they were chain smokers that lit their second cigarette from the first one. If not, they needed to carry matches. Match boxes were generally too bulky to carry. This 1960's curved silver-plated matchbox was presented as a sporting prize, but it did have a genuine use as a match holder for the man who only smoked intermittently. The matchbox is curved to enable it to fit more conveniently in a trouser pocket. "
