Singer Sewing Machine

"Belonged to my mother, who gave it to me before she died. She used it when she emigrated to New York (Jackson Heights), in the mid 1950's, and made lots of shift dresses for the stylish partygoers all along her corridor in the appartment block where she lived with her sister. She used it in Ireland in the 1970s, to make and mend clothes, and curtains, and it lay idle until she gave it to me as a wedding gift in 2000. She died in May 2001, and for years later, when I opened it, the smell would transport me right back to a very special time in our lives. It's very sentimental to me."
