Small objects which were presents bought for parents 1950s
"These small gifts were bought for my parents by myself and my older brother c.1955 out of "pocket money" most likely received from visiting relatives. They were bought in the Lakeview Store in Dollymount, Clontarf now long gone. It was a grocery shop which also sold household goods, costume jewelry, and a range of other items as was the practice then. From approximately age 7, we, as the eldest in a family of five children, were sent down to the shops with an empty pram to do the shopping for our mother. We handed in a list from our mother, the pram was loaded and we returned with our precious load. No doubt these little gifts were spirited away by us for Christmas, birthdays etc...One of my regular household tasks was to keep everything dusted and the house tidy as my mother was mostly occupied with childcare tasks! Different times!"
