Keys to the Old Cork City Gaol

"These are a complete set of keys to the Old Cork City Gaol which stood on the site of University College Cork. I purchased the keys from a friend of mine who, Mr Dan Driscoll, who worked as a young man digging trenches on the site when the prison was being demolished and foundations were being dug for the extension to the university. Dan was working in the trench with a pick and shovel, a lorry driver was loading a large safe on to the back of an old truck with a grabber, the safe fell loosely on to the back of the truck and the keys fell out onto the ground. The driver of the truck picked up the keys and threw them to my friend who was working in the trench and shouted to him: “You might want to get out of here some day!”"
