Electric Kettle 1953

"This was the family's first electric kettle and it arrived on the same day as me. The story goes that the kettle was ordered from the ESB (on HP or the "never-never" as it was known) and the local postman in Skerries, Co. Dublin delivered it on the morning of 11th December 1953. However my mother did not have much time to check it out as she was rushed to Holles St. Hospital to deliver me the same day. It is part of the family history that it and I arrived on the same day. Later the handle broke but my father repaired it using a series of rubber washers. It probably still works, but it does not click off like modern kettles, but it is now part of the family lore and legend."
