Aunt Mary's American Trunk
"This trunk was brought home from Boston by my Aunt Mary in 1932 when she came home that year for the Eucharistic Congress. She came from a large Connemara family and the trunk was filled with gifts for them. She had emigrated with a small suitcase of few belongings in 1924. She returned to Boston to marry and spend the rest of her life there not retuning home to Ireland again until 1974 for a holiday with her daughter. The trunk remained on the landing in my grandmother's house. It was filled with good linen and bedding. It was also used as a hiding place in games when all the cousins descended on the house. The stickers on the side were a source of wonder for us as children hoping to emulate her sea journey some day. "
