Postcard from Liffey Millennium Countdown Timer
"Postcard from Liffey Millennium Countdown Timer. It was located in the River Liffey on the west side of O'Connell Bridge in Dublin and comprised two sections - the glowing countdown display, which was located under the water, and a kiosk on the bridge which (for a fee) printed a postcard showing the number of seconds to go until midnight on 1st January, 2000. Officially it was called the "Millennium Timepiece" but in the proud tradition of these things it was rechristened "The Time in the Slime" by cynical Dubliners. The timer didn't last long as it continually broke down due to water infiltration. The object is historically important as a reminder of the excitement in the late 1990s as the new millennium approached. "
