Membership Card for Sound City Beat Club

"This is my membership card for Sound City on Burgh Quay which, I believe, was the first Beat Club in Ireland and Dublin's answer to The Cavern Club in Liverpool. The Club opened in 1965 and was run by Maurice Boland of the Kingbees. The first night featured Bluesville and The Greenbeats, the two best groups in Dublin at the time. It was extremely basic with the walls painted matt black and those purple strip lights that emphasised anything white. Very cool at the time. The seats were just planks of wood, painted the same matt black and fixed to the walls with cheap brackets. If more than two people sat on them they fell off the wall. There was a Wimpy Bar (what's a Wimpy Bar?) next door if we were feeling peckish on the way home. Happy days."
