Homemade Celtic Cross
"It's a silver cross that I pulled out of the mud at my grandmother's house when I was 10 or 11. There's an engraving on the back from Spike Island and the date. We always postulated that it was a hammered-out coin from an inmate. We always thought it was in isolation but since this project started we've seen related things on the website. It's great to put it in context with these other pieces. My grandmother had a book from Spike Island which had a list of inmates and she gave it to a local man who was a Republican, when he died it was in his documents which went into the local museum at Fitzgerald Park.
