Embroidered Tablecloth
"This is a handmade tablecloth that belonged to my Granny. She would have made it using the techniques of drawn-thread embroidery in the centre and then the outside is just a crocheted pattern of butterflies. Then she combined the whole thing. It's precious to me because I know the hands that made it and her name is on it (Gilmartin – she lived in Sligo). And I also know there were a few of them in our house – they would have been used in the hall where the geranium pot was and on tables with photos of us, and also would have been used at mass stations in the house. I don't think I could make something like it – for that reason it’s precious to me. "
