Fifty Pence Piece - 1971
"This is a fifty pence piece from 1971 - the year in which Ireland embraced decimalisation of the currency. The 50p piece was the replacement for the ten shilling note. The value of the fifty pence piece in the photo would be about €8 in 2017. Gone were the Pounds, Shillings and Pence - although you still hear people saying they need a 'few bob' and some people complained bitterly about the change, even up until the next big change - the adoption of the Euro.
