STEVEN REID IRELAND JERSEY WORLD CUP 2002
"I went to Japan as a 21 year old to support Ireland at the World Cup in 2002. After the Germany game in the team hotel Steven Reid gave me his Irish shirt from the game. When I came home I looked for the Irish football museum to donate it to but could not find one. The Irish jersey is known all over the world and it is the banner we all stand behind. It shows the world where we come from and who we are. The shirt has now been framed with my tournament match tickets to preserve this moment in time and mark the first shirt in the museums collection. The Irish team have given the nation some of its greatest ever moments not just sporting but in our culture. 1988 and 1990 are seen as the birth of a new Irish confidence due to how our team performed on the World stage. It was then that I decided to set up my own Irish football museum. 15 years later IRELANDSOCCERSHIRTS.COM now contains nearly every moment of Irish soccer history and my aim is to preserve our past and inspire future generations by building the first Irish football museum in this country.
