Letter From Limerick Prison New Years Night 1921
"This letter was written by my Grandfather on 01-Jan-1921 while he was held in Limerick Prison. He was arrested in the famous raid on Caherguillamore House on 27th Dec 1920 when an IRA fundariser dance was raided by the RIC. 5 IRA men were killed on the night and plenty wounded. My grandfather Tom O'Brien was the doorman collecting the money on the night and as a result of the arrest spent a year in Wormwood Scrubbs. His brother was a doctor and was also there on the night. He was severely beaten and forced to give medical attention to some of the RIC officers wounded: he died indirectly of his injuries about 4 years later."
