"My grandmother's handwritten Domestic Science journal (dated 6-2-1920). She was sent to a convent in Dunmanway, Co. Cork (60 miles from home) at 17 years of age to learn how to be a good wife. I never met my grandmother, she died when my father was 12 years old, yet being able to touch her written word is such an intimate connection that I feel close to her spirit almost a hundred years later. I love the fact that she took such care with her penmanship but her ability to spell let's her down on nearly every page, and is highlighted in red pen by an anonymous teacher whose corrections have outlived both teacher and student! "
