RAF 1093-45 War Service Medals
"In this year when the RAF is celebrating 100 years I feel it is only fitting that Irish Men who served in the RAF in WW2 should be remembered too. My Uncle, the late Flight Lieutenant William Booth Brooks, served with 239 and 64 Squadrons of Fighter Command. He was reported missing in February 1945 as a result of air operations on 7th February. He was returning from an operation over Germany and his last known position was North of Antwerp. In October 1945, his parents received a letter from the Air Ministry in London to say that there was no evidence of his survival so his death was officially presumed to have occurred on 7th February 1945. In December 1945, he was awarded the 3 medals by virtue of his service. I believe his uniform is in the care of Collins Barracks Museum and we have the medals and copies of all letters."
